I was first introduced to Maggie Sawyer in the comics. I always liked her character and followed several comic series’ she has been involved in. When I heard we would get a live action version of the character on a superhero show I was ecstatic. From the moment she walked onto that tarmac in her first scene I was sold. I immediately fell in love with this version of Maggie. As we learned more and more about her I saw more and more resemblances in our stories. It was so empowering seeing a woman with Maggie's backstory on screen and the fact that she actually came out so much stronger because of her experiences. For the first time I actually felt represented. Her iconic quotes might sum it up the best: 

"It's real. you're real. And you deserve a real full happy life."

"We should kiss the girls we wanna kiss."

"I don't need anything from you. I'm already good."

These quotes and Floriana Lima's amazing acting that brought Maggie Sawyer to life helped me so much. It helped me realize that it's okay to just be myself, no matter what other people might think. 

For that I am forever grateful.
