"Maggie Sawyer and Sanvers saved my best friend's life." - By Anon

Maggie Sawyer and Sanvers saved my best friend's life.

As Maggie and Alex's love story unfolded onscreen I watched how much excitement and happiness it brought them in a dark time in their life. Every Monday night I took to watching the show with them and I saw how much they connected with Sanvers.

I identify as straight, so I can't possibly claim to know the experience of struggles of my best friend or other LGBTQ+ community members. I've been privileged to see myself on screen my whole life and I never fully understood the impact representation could have until I saw the tears and the joy Sanvers brought my friend.

I am so grateful for Maggie Sawyer and Sanvers because they gave my best friend the courage to come out. Before Sanvers they did not realize they were gay, and I was the first person they ever told they liked girls, and it was after months of struggle. I remember the fear and hesitation they had in telling me, and it broke my heart. I believe every single person should feel free to be their authentic self and I felt privileged for them to share this with me. I know that Sanvers helped them in ways I can't start to comprehend.

I know that Maggie's storyline with her dad felt especially important to them. Growing up in a very religious family, my friend doesn't have the support system from their family that they deserve and seeing Maggie stand up for herself healed wounds for them that run deep.

Thanks to Sanvers I got to witness my best friend grow in comfortability with their sexuality. They still struggle, but they are proud of who they are and they've attributed it mostly to Maggie and her impact. Sanvers helped them feel seen, helped show them that they deserve a real, full, happy life.

Thanks to Sanvers and Maggie Sawyer, I watched them bloom into the beautiful person they are.
